The safety and security of a child is of utmost importance, and that goes even for sleeping. Choosing the right crib is important to helping your newborn baby develop a healthy sleep habit along with the fact that it is the piece of furniture that your child will spend the most time in.
A drop side crib has long been a favourite choice of parents. One or sometimes both sides of the rail, can be lowered to give easy access to the parent or carer of the child.
A word of caution though, as carers have, in their sleep-deprived state, forgotten to put the rail back up amongst other concerns about the drop side crib. There have also been problems with the drop side malfunctioning either due to a manufacturer’s defect or simply from wear and tear over the years.
A drop side crib is convenient but will be much more secure if it comes with stationary sides. And when drop sides are raised, they are to be at least 26 inches above the mattress support. It is best when shopping for a crib whether new or even a used one, to explore and look up the safety standards and certification, as each varies depending on the country it was made and imported in to.
